I didn’t come to spirituality for comfort

I came because I wanted to wake up.

Over the last 25 years, I haven’t just collected teachings - I have tested them.

Lived them, questioned them, walked away from some and come back to others.

And this is what I know now...

Teachings and practices matter, not because they’re something to believe in,

but because they’ve been lived, refined, and passed down for a reason.

They create the conditions for awakening but they don’t guarantee anything.

And I have realised…

Anything can be weaponised. Even spirituality.

I’ve seen it in others and I’ve caught it in myself.

I have had to question whether I wanted truth... or just a more spiritual version of comfort?

You don’t see the truth of a teaching by agreeing with it.

You see it when you’re honest enough to apply it to your own life.

These days, I’m far less interested in what I believe and far more interested in what actually works.

Because if a practice is real, it changes something. Not in years, but in months.

You become a little more steady, a little more open, and a little less reactive.

If that’s not happening, something’s off.

And the deeper truth? The spiritual path isn’t always about adding more.

Eventually, there comes a time to let go.

At that point, there can’t be any more clinging…. not to identity, not to comfort… not even to life itself.

If you want happiness over truth, the spiritual path will only take you so far.

Because truth will ask things of you that comfort never will.

I’m still walking this, still being shown where I’m holding on.

But these are the teachings that have actually held me.

This is the ground I’ll be bringing into the next session of Where We Take Refuge on Monday night 8pm

for anyone who’s less interested in beliefs and more interested in what’s real.

To sign up head over to my upcoming events page or join us in the Art of Being Human where this session is included for paid subscribers.

I look forward to seeing you there.
